This website is dedicated to the life of Sergeant 1st Class Joseph Ladd Mayes, whose career in the Victorian Police Force (Australia) spanned 37 years from 1858 to 1895. During his career, Joseph Ladd Mayes earned a reputation as a highly disciplined and respected officer, was involved in the pursuit of bushrangers Harry Power & Edward “Ned” Kelly and contributed to significant reforms of the Police Service in the wake of the Kelly Affair through the Police Royal Commission (1881-1883).
Joseph Ladd Mayes is survived by many descendants throughout Australia.
